Updated: Nov 22, 2021

Discover Cairns' unrivaled stunning scenery, including breathtaking reefs, historic rainforests, incredible culture, and an alfresco dining atmosphere.

For solo travel Cairns, the best Cairns resorts are Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut, Cairns Plaza Hotel, Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, and Hilton Cairns.

Cairns has much to offer everyone, from breathtaking rainforest waterfalls to firsthand views of the Great Barrier Reef. This extensive list of the top things to do in Cairns, Australia, was produced after exploring the best hikes and waterfalls, sailing to tropical islands, and checking out some of the fantastic adrenaline adventures on offer. These locations should be on your Cairns bucket list!.

Port Douglas

Soar on the skies and hang glide over the Daintree Rainforest and Port Douglas' beautiful beaches. You'll get stunning 360-degree views of Cairns and the lush terrain of Tropical North Queensland from this vantage point. As far as Cairns adventure activities are concerned, this will leave you gasping for air.

With Updraught Microlights and Hang Gliders, you can learn how to hang glide for $175 for a 20-minute session.

BMX through the rainforest

BMXing in the jungle at night will tick a lot of adventurers' boxes, and North Queensland's Bump Track Adventure Tour has been acclaimed as one of Australia's top ten mountain bike rides, so you have to see to believe it.

Underneath the light of the moon and 100 Lumen LED torches hooked to nothing but your helmet, journey from the Julatten Range down through stunning ancient rainforests and ghost gums.

Zipline away!

The all-weather wildlife display and zipline, Cairns ZOOM, and Wildlife Dome is perched atop the Cairns Reef Hotel Casino. It is an exact simulation of a rainforest ecosystem, with 400 free-roaming animals, including Goliath, a sizeable four-meter saltwater crocodile, housed in a 20-meter high glass dome.

Soar through the canopy, the Cairns skyline, and the old reptile's enclosure on the zipline.

Fitzroy Island Resort

Fitzroy Island is the closest island to Cairns and features one of the most fabulous Cairns Islands resorts. It has everything you'll need for a once-in-a-lifetime island vacation, including a beach, a cocktail bar, snorkeling, a restaurant, and a pool.

Green Island

Green Island is perhaps one of Cairns' most visited islands. It's one of the closest to the Cairns coast, and it just takes an hour to get there by fast boat.

Snorkeling at the spectacular fringing reef and "the pinnacle" is the top attraction of this island. You can also walk about the island, taking in the fantastic tropical foliage and white-sand beaches surrounding its coastlines.

Dunk Island

Dunk Island is another must-see off the coast of Cairns and one of the best locations for Cairns for singles to visit. This one is a little further south of Cairns and may be reached from Mission Beach.

There's an abandoned resort, an old runway, plenty of walks, fantastic snorkeling, and a spectacular stretching sand bar that's a popular Instagram spot on the island.

If you go to Dunk Island, don't forget to stop at Mound Island, located directly across from the main beach. To get there, you'll need a kayak or a boat, but if you do, you'll get a flavor of secluded island life.
